My first iPad self portrait

I made this drawing to capture the day I picked the 2nd hand iPad up from Argos. That evening I was heading down to Hastings to stay with my boyfriend for a couple of days, and I was so, so scared of losing this new piece of ultra-expensive machinery; and it was also the first time I’d made the journey exclusively on trains (rather than coaching to London to save tons of cash). It was a very stressful journey, but I was at the same time so full of excitement. Joe met me at the station with a can for us to share on the slightly rainy walk to his house. I’m grateful to myself for capturing this moment, as it helps me to feel both lucky and hopeful. As someone who struggles with anxiety and depression, being able to access times when I experienced happiness alongside discomfort and fear reminds me that I can cope, that I can feel resilience, and also that I have a lot of supportive and loving people around me.
