footprint 2020 calendar design

Footprint Workers Co-op, where I work, produces a riso calendar (almost) every year, full of artwork from some of our lovely customers.

In 2019, we had two expensive and exciting new purchases: a purple and a metallic gold drum!  So we decided to print the whole calendar in these two new colours, to showcase our new fancy abilities.

I love my fellow co-operators and had a lot of fun drawing these energetic and sweet portraits of us.  It was also cool to be able to include my new Alliance For Choice jumper, in the wake of decrimilisation of abortion in Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Notes on details: We work in a basement, so there are spiders; and we used to drink a lot of coffee.  I drew the original drawings in brush and ink, scanned in and rearranged in photoshop, then shaded areas with a grey digital brush.

This image shows the metallic sheen of the gold.

I also provided some art for the December page, but I liked the individual bird drawings much better than the final arrangements.

I loved coming up with words that fit with their characteristics and their latin names.  I’m particularly proud of the Waxwing: Bombycilla Garrulus / Garrulous Bombast.
